Location

We will be staying at a medicine center located near the small village of Llanchama along the Nanay River in the Amazon Rainforest outside of Iquitos, Peru.

Nihue Rao is a traditional healing center and refers to a master plant abundant at the center which is used in the advanced stages of traditional Shipibo medical training. In the Shipibo language, nihue refers to air as in breath or wind; and rao is medicine.

Nihue Rao Centro Espiritual is by its nature intercultural and integrative. The term Nihue Rao represents the Shipibo tradition which is practiced and Centro Espiritual (Spiritual Center) is written in Spanish to honor the mestizo/Latino culture which provides further context to the deeply spiritual and transformative work being brought forth at the center.

Using the ancient knowledge of Amazonian medicinal plants, and integrative medicine, the purpose of the Center is to teach, revitalize, disseminate, preserve the ancestral practice of Amazonian plant medicine and join with emerging technolgies in healing. The techniques practiced here promote spiritual, psychological, and physical well-being.
